ID=14424417A special judge has denied a request for a temporary injunction that would have kept Monroe County sheriff-elect Randy White from taking office next week.

Current sheriff Bill Bivens and the county's Democratic party have filed separate lawsuits against White, claiming he is not qualified to serve as sheriff.

White defeated Bivens by 703 votes in the August election, despite the fact that the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission determined that White did not meet the requirements to be sheriff.

White's name was already on the ballot, and early voting had begun.

While the lawsuits are pending, Bivens had asked for the injunction to keep White from taking over as sheriff on September 1.
