Motorists pull driver from fiery crash on Pellissippi Parkway

According to TDOT, the crash was reported at 11:57 a.m. Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane are blocked.

UPDATE Monday at 4:45 p.m.:

One person is recovering in the hospital after investigators said they crashed into multiple vehicles in West Knox County Monday.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, a Lexus ES300 was traveling west on Pellissippi Parkway at Oak Ridge Highway when it hit a Toyota Camry around 11:45 a.m.

The driver of the Lexus was observed slumped over the wheel, then woke up, and continued driving westbound on Pellissippi Parkway before performing a U-turn, and driving eastbound on Pellissippi Parkway.

No one in the Camry was seriously injured, KCSO said.

The sheriff's office said the person was seen driving "erratically on the median and shoulder." The driver struck two more vehicles and continued eastbound.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle rear-ended a black Audi at Lovell Road, went into the median, and caught fire. Motorists pulled the driver from the vehicle.

Investigators said the driver was transported to Parkwest Hospital and then transferred to UT Medical Center.

ORIGINAL STORY updated Monday at 1:30 p.m.: Pellissippi Parkway at Lovell Road has reopened after it was closed for over an hour Monday following a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound side.

According to TDOT, the crash was reported at 11:57 a.m. Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane had been blocked.

According to Knox County dispatch, a vehicle rear ended another on Lovell Road, drove off, ran into the center lane, and caught on fire. Two officers on their way to the scene were also involved.
