New distillery coming to Sevier County

A new distillery opens in Sevier County on Tuesday.

Sevier Distilling Company will open its doors to customers on Tuesday, October 24th.

"We are fermenting, distilling and bottling everything we do," said master distiller Chris Yett. "We are making sure that we make every drop that goes into our alcohol."

The project is a long-term vision of Yett who has been working on his current location for over a year. The distillery will offer its own version of tequila, vodka and moonshine as an unclassified liquor Yett invented.

"This is Yenoh, it's honey spelled backwards and we call it that because we make it with 100% honey. That's all that's in there, honey, water and yeast," said Yett.

Yett says many of the ideas in the distillery came from a deep family history in Tennessee.

"We have a 1,000 gallon still called The Colonel. We named it that after my great grandfather nine times back, the Colonel Valentine Sevier. He was John Sevier's brother so we have a lot of history and roots in Tennessee and we're happy to be a part of it."

Yett says customers who come in will get a tour as transparent as his products.

"On our tours we'll show you everything. We hold all of our corn on-site. All of our barley as well. We also mill everything we put into our cooker," he said.

The distillery is located on 745 Old Douglass Dam Road in Sevierville.
