ID=12110531When making plans for the 4th of July, you might want to consider the Museum of Appalachia's annual Anvil Shoot.

Long ago, many would celebrate special occasions by placing an anvil on top of another anvil with a bed of black powder in between.

They would then light the powder causing the top anvil to shoot close to one hundred feet in the air.

About twenty years ago, the Museum of Appalachia brought this tradition back.

Along with the anvil shoot, guests on the 4th can enjoy music and tons of activities.

The museum will be open July 4th from 8:30 am until 7:00 pm with the main activities taking place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
