One dead, another hurt after chase through Morgan County ended in crash

The Tennessee Highway Patrol released the names of the two involved in that crash Tuesday morning.

A Rockwood man died and another was hurt after crashing while being chased by Morgan and Roane County officers.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and said it happened in Morgan County on Lower Rockwood Road.

Officers said 34-year-old William Crabtree of Oliver Springs died and 32-year-old Amber Neal of Rockwood was hurt in the crash.

According to THP, Crabtree was driving south down the road with Neal as his passenger while being chased by both Roane County and Morgan County deputies.

THP said Crabtree was driving a 2004 Volvo XC90 at high speeds when he lost control on a curve and went off the road, driving through two ditches before ramming into a large tree.

THP said neither were wearing their seatbelts and said it could have made a difference in saving Crabtree. Officers have not revealed why the two were being chased.
