Pedestrian dies after being hit by SUV

KPD identified the pedestrian as Melissa Everette.

UPDATE 2:30 PM MONDAY: The pedestrian struck Friday night when she stepped into traffic on Magnolia Avenue has died.

The Knoxville Police Department is identifying the woman as Melissa D. Everette, 50, of Knoxville. It's not clear when she died. She was being treated at University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Everette was struck shortly before 7 p.m. Friday near Castle Street.

The investigation into the crash continues.

The driver who hit her was Angelia M. Jones, 51, of Knoxville, according to KPD. She was not hurt, according to KPD.

PREVIOUS STORY: A pedestrian was hit by an SUV on E. Magnolia Avenue Friday night, according to Knoxville Police.

The crash involving a pedestrian happened around 6:53 p.m. at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Castle Street, KPD said.

It is believed a Toyota SUV was traveling west on Magnolia Ave. when a pedestrian stepped into the lane of traffic and was hit by the car. KPD said the pedestrian was transported to UT Medical with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
