Rural Metro responds to possible drowning, victim found alive, arrested

24-year-old man thought to have drowned Saturday night in West Knox County was arrested for a domestic assault charge.

Update at 11:18 p.m.: A post from the Knox County Sheriff's Office says the man who was thought to be drowned was rescued and arrested for domestic assault.

The man has been identified as 24-year-old Andrew Stewart. Shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday evening, he had been charged with domestic assault after an incident at his girlfriend's home, according to KCSO.

Stewart had a DUI from last year in Knox County as well.

Update at 9:41 p.m.: A victim was found alive after a call of a possible drowning in West Knox County, according to Rural Metro.

The man was seen struggling without a life preserver across the Tennessee River, and witnesses provided him with one, Rural Metro said.

Those witnesses could no longer see the young man in the water and called to report the possible drowning. Once Rural Metro got to the scene, they searched for the young man in a boat.

Once rescuers heard the young man had been given a life preserver, they went to check the shoreline.

The man was intoxicated and found along the shoreline. Knox County Sheriff's Office says the man had warrants out for his arrest, so deputies arrested him on the scene.

10News does not know the identity of the young male or the charges at this point in time.

Previous story: A possible drowning was reported off of Badgett Road in West Knox County, according to Jeff Bagwell with Rural Metro.

The call came down around 8:10 p.m. Saturday evening, according to Rural Metro.

Bagwell says some people near the lake spotted a man swimming near there but never re-surfaced.

Rural Metro is on the scene.
