The Salvation Army has kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign in Knoxville with more than 60 red kettles across the city and a goal of raising $650,000.

Last year, the six-week campaign raised more than $625,000. The money goes toward transitional housing programs, shelters for abused women and children and many other programs.

The fourth annual Rock the Red Kettle Concert was held Thursday at the Bijou Theatre, with 100 percent of ticket sales going directly toward the Red Kettle Campaign.

People interested in volunteering as a bell ringer at one of the red kettle locations can contact the Salvation Army at 865-525-9401 to sign up.
