Second Harvest Food Bank kicks off annual 'canstruction' contest

Local businesses teamed up with an architect to build the structures. They were required to make a holiday-themed sculpture completely out of non-perishable food items.

An unusual art exhibit is on display at the Knoxville Convention Center.

Canned goods were used in the fifth annual "Canstruction" competition benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank Monday.

Local businesses teamed up with an architect to build the structures. They were required to make a holiday-themed sculpture completely out of non-perishable food items.

All of the "artwork" will be donated to local families.

"Second Harvest has to provide 1.1 million meals a month in an 18-county service area to maintain what we've been able to do. So, when the whole community gets involved in an event like this, we're just blessed beyond blessed," Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank Elaine Streno said.

You can vote for your favorite creation on the Knoxville "Canstruction" Facebook page.
