As part of a decades-long tradition, Santa ditched his sleigh for a little bit on Christmas Eve and hitched a ride with the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department.

Santa and his firefighter helpers visited an estimated 1,000 homes around the Seymour community. They also made sure to remind each house about the importance of having a fire escape plan.

“When Santa gets off the firetruck, it’s all about the kids and the kids absolutely love Santa,” Seymour VFD Lt. Andrew Scruggs said.

Several houses even made sure to give Santa a treat as well including cookies for the trip.

The evening's festivities wrapped up with the Christmas story being read on the fire department's VHF frequency.
