Shut up and Ski: Eskimo Escapades 2018 set for Jan. 27 at Volunteer Landing

It's one of the coolest events of 2018 and it's coming to Volunteer Landing on Jan. 27, 2018. The annual Eskimo Escapades encourages others to "Shut up and Ski" the chilly waters of Fort Loudon Lake.

It's not exactly the best time of year to go skiing but it's certainly the most unforgettable time of year to do so.

The 2018 Eskimo Escapades is coming to Volunteer Landing in Knoxville on Jan. 27, 2018. The event is a fundraiser for the Eskimo Escapades Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit that hosts the winter water ski charity every January.

Registration starts at 10am and the event continues through 3pm. All skiers must have a minimum $40 donation in order to participate. Click here to read the brochure.

Over the past 22 years, over $390,000 has been raised for the following organizations:

The Dream Connection: A non-profit group that fulfills special dreams for local children ages 3-8 who are facing life-threatening or debilitating illnesses.

Patricia Neal IRC: Works to provide ways for individuals with a disability to help them participate in recreational activities. IRC Stands for Innovative Recreation Cooperative.

Adventure Amputee Camp: The group encourages with amputations or limb differences to explore all that is possible with them through camp activities like river rafting, high ropes, water or snow skiing.

Sunny Marina will provide boats for the skier and wetsuits are provided by Ski/SCUBA. Each skier can also bring their own equipment. There will be a hot tub from Aurora Pools, Spas and Billiards for folks to warm up in.

Officials warn that the skiing will take place in cold, snowy or even freezing weather. All skiers must sign a waiver. Click here for more information.
