Previous story:

(WBIR) Knoxville police are investigating after a Knoxville man claims he was attacked with a hammer and stabbed with a pocket knife.

Investigators spoke to the victim, Billy Swann, who told officers that the suspect was an acquaintance who walked into the apartment on Davenport Road uninvited.

Swann said he and the man spoke calmly at first, but when he turned his back, the man hit him in the head with a hammer several times. Swann fell to the ground, and said the man kept hitting him while he tried to defend himself. He said the man then got a small pocket knife from his pocket and tried to cut his throat, then started stabbing him.

He said he asked the man why he was attacking him, and the man answered, " I gotta kill you!"

Swann said he eventually got to the door and screamed for help.

Swann is in serious condition, but KPD said his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Charges are pending, but have not been filed. The other man's name has not yet been released.
