A 15-year-old Hancock County high school student was killed and his brother was injured in a Monday afternoon single-vehicle crash.

Nathanael Seal, 15, of Eidson in Hawkins County, was a passenger in a truck that overturned multiple times on Roberts Road about 1.5 miles south of State Highway 33 in Sneedville around 4:23 p.m. Monday.

Nathanael's older brother, Zachary, was driving the 1997 Chevrolet S14 pick-up truck. He was injured in the crash. Family friends say Zachary needed medical attention at a nearby hospital, but he is awake and recovering from his injuries.

This accident marks the second time in just over a year that Hancock County High School lost a student in a car wreck.

In September 2015, another football player at HCHS- Dakota Blevins- also died in an accident.

"Who would imagine anything like that, a once in a lifetime thing happening twice?," said Brian Greene, Principal at HCHS.

Now- Dakota's classmates are using their experience to help their younger peers.

"I feel like in some way they connect so our school can grow together more and be there for each other," said senior Macy Reed.

Counselors from surrounding counties were at the school Tuesday, offering their services to anyone who needed it.

According to the THP report, the driver drove off the right side of the roadway, and then crossed back over both lanes while traveling east on Roberts Road. The truck then went off the left side of the road, came back onto the roadway and overturned multiple times.

The truck then went off the right side of the road, and down an embankment.

Neither boy was wearing a seat belt, according to the THP report.

Investigators said speed might have played a factor in the crash. Citations and criminal charges are pending, according to the THP report.

The investigation is ongoing
