Tennesseans participate in annual March for Life in Knoxville

The Tennessee Right to Life - Knox County Chapter held its annual March for Life on Sunday at 2 p.m. at World's Fair Park.

The Tennessee Right to Life held its annual March for Life event on Sunday.

The march started at 2 p.m. in World's Fair Park in Downtown Knoxville. The event on Facebook said it will be family-friendly. The march is to remember the Supreme Court's decision of Roe v. Wade almost 45 years ago.

As of this year, Tennessee's abortion laws say those looking to receive an abortion have to go to a licensed medical doctor to ask for medical doctor and give consent while in her first trimester. After the first trimester and before viability, a woman has to go to a hospital to speak with a medical doctor. After viability, an abortion is only allowed to preserve the life or health of the mother.

Before Roe v. Wade, abortion was illegal in most of the United States, including Tennessee. Jan. 22 will mark the 45th anniversary of the decision.

The Facebook page also mentioned it has worked with the Knoxville Police Department to maintain the safety of all those who come out.

The event's Facebook page said it will begin with time for prayer and inspiration at the Tennessee Amphitheater before beginning the march.
