Three defendants found guilty in Ooltewah rape case

The three defendants in the Ooltewah rape case have been found guilty, but two of the suspects are convicted to reduced charges.

The case was heard Tuesday in Sevier County Juvenile Court.

A person familiar with the case says one Tennessee high school basketball player has been found guilty of aggravated rape and two others were found guilty of aggravated assault against a freshman teammate.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the juvenile hearing Tuesday involving the Ooltewah High School students was closed to the public and no ruling was publicly announced immediately afterward. The names of the defendants haven't been released because they were in juvenile court.

Gatlinburg police said three Ooltewah players assaulted a freshman teammate with a pool cue Dec. 22 while the team was playing in a tournament.

The case has also led to charges against Ooltewah High officials - and even the Gatlinburg detective who investigated the incident.
