Townsend celebrated its logging town roots during its first-ever Founders Day.

People donned their best lumberjack gear to take part in the festival's highlight: The 2017 Southeastern College and University Lumberjack Competition.

Organizers said they wanted to host it to honor the town's logging and railroad roots.

"The competitors really put their all into it, and the people could see how it was... how difficult it is and how strategic as well as physical," Townsend Walland Business Alliance president Carl Goodman said.

About 400 to 450 people came to the celebration.
