(WBIR, Knoxville) - A scrap metal truck driver was cited multiple times Thursday morning after his truck hit an interstate overpass.

According to Knoxville Police, 48-year-old William D. Wright was hauling scrap metal to a recycling plant around 4:00 a.m. when he hit a traffic light on Rutledge Pike.

KPD said the driver didn't realize he hit the light and kept driving. When he tried to go under the I-40 bridge at Asheville Highway, some of the scrap metal became wedged between the bridge.

TDOT officials said there doesn't appear to be any structural damage to that bridge.

KPD cited Wright, who is from Isom, Ky., with driving with an improperly secured load. THP also cited the driver for failing to have a log book, cargo not immobilized or secured, and operation without proof of periodic inspection.

As a result of the THP inspection, the truck was placed out of service for 34 hours.
