Firefighters who were trapped on a bluff on Bays Mountain in Hawkins County have been rescued as a wildfire continues to burn out of control.

Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency Director Gary Murrell told News 5 that the fire personnel made a mayday call just after 9 p.m. Tuesday night as they tried to fight the blaze located near Mountain View Road and Goshen Valley Road.

Murrell said the blaze is spreading on the Laurel Run Park side of Bays Mountain.

A nearby landowner that went to check on the fire and a Tennessee Division of Forestry firefighter were injured, Murrell said, but did not know the extent of their injuries. He did note that the firefighter was taken to an area hospital in Kingsport for treatment.

Murrell also said that the fire is currently 30 acres in size and has not been contained.
