The Knoxville Fire Department went out to rescue a man behind a North Broadway business Thursday afternoon.

KFD Captain D.J. Corcoran said a call came in of a man stuck in a hollow space between some large rock piled up behind the Advance Financial 24/7 in North Knoxville.

Rescue efforts took about two hours before the man was brought up and out of the hole. Firefighters had to use jackhammers to break up some of the rocks around the man's ankles to get him out.

Cocoran said the man had been trapped in the hole for 26 hours.

The man was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with very minor injuries and dehydration.

Firefighters don't know why the man was in the hole or how he got stuck.
