A section of West Jackson Avenue in the Old City will be closed next week to allow crews to install an cable box.

The section of Jackson Avenue between Broadway and the Jackson entrance to Balter Beerworks will close starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13.

It will remain closed through Friday, Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m.

Road closures

A contractor, Design and Construction Services Inc., will install a telecommunications junction box and conduits as part of the city’s streetscapes upgrade along Jackson.

Customers can access the brewery from Broadway.

Drivers will be able to access the city-owned parking lot on West Jackson Avenue by driving west on West Jackson from Gay Street.

Two streetscape projects total about $2 million.

One project managed by DCSI, the other by Southern Constructors Inc., is giving West Jackson Avenue between South Central Street and Broadway a fresh new look, with rebuilt sidewalks and infrastructure upgrades. In coming months, street trees will be planted.

The city said next year, the antiquated ramps connecting Jackson Avenue and Gay Street will be rebuilt. That's expected to bring the total City investment to modernize and upgrade Old City public infrastructure to about $11.5 million.
