If you're planning to hit the greenways this weekend, you may need to take another route.

The City of Knoxville is rerouting a section of the Third Creek Greenway near Tobler Lane in west Knoxville, which is near West High School.

"This stretch of the greenway floods regularly," said the city's deputy director of public service Chad Weth. "The water run-off causes the trail to get full of mud and debris many times throughout the year, making it difficult for walkers, bicyclists and joggers to use the greenway after a hard rain."

They're going to clear a new area and lay a new stretch of asphalt. The city said it expects the work to last until late fall.

The Third Creek Greenway will stay open for the entire project, but may occasionally close when crews enter and leave the site.
