The city is tearing down nine of the large buildings at the former Lakeshore Mental Health Institute and turning the entire site into park land.

Crews spent the last week tearing out old plumbing from the inside of the building, but this destruction of the old laundry facility is the first real demolition to the outside of a building.

The contractor expects to finish tearing down all nine buildings by next spring.
