A woman is safe after getting stuck in an elevator during widespread power outages in Sevier County Thursday as strong winds brought down trees and power lines.

Melia Clifton caught her rescue on video on her cell phone.

The Gatlinburg Fire Department says they were called to the Glenstone Lodge in Gatlinburg because the power was knocked out up and down the Parkway.

Clifton said the power went out while she was in the elevator around 11:30 p.m. She called 911 from her cell phone inside the elevator. She said the Gatlinburg Fire Department responded quickly, and were there within 10 minutes.

She said she's grateful to the firefighters who rescued her.

"With all the chaos going on - 80-90mph winds blowing down trees and power lines all over roads and destroying homes, businesses, schools ect., thousands of people without power, battling an 80+ acre wildfire ... yet they were able to respond so quickly to something minor (compared to everything else) is truly a blessing and I'm so proud and thankful to be a part of this community!" she said.
