Zaevion Dobson Memorial Park opened Wednesday

Knoxville's Community Development Corporation, Gerdau steel and the city of Knoxville have donated $35,000 total towards the project.

A park to honor the late Zaevion Dobson will opened on Wednesday afternoon.

The ceremony for the Zaevion Dobson Memorial Playground and Park was held at 2701 Badgett Drive.

Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero attended Wednesday's ceremony along with city councilman Mark Campen, Zaevion's mother Zenobia Dobson, KCDC executive director Ben Bentley and Gerdau general manager Johnny Miller.

Zaevion Dobson died shielding his friends from gunfire during a random gang shooting in December 2015.
