Residents of Tennessee's House District 18 in Knoxville will have new representation in Nashville next year.

Martin Daniel defeated incumbent Steve Hall in the Republican primary Thursday night. Hall has held the seat since 2010.

Daniel says he's honored to serve the district.

"I want to be a good listener. I want to listen to the concerns of the people here. And we need to represent, represent them well over in Nashville. So I'll be an advocate for the 18th District. Economic development is on our list, constitutional rights, of course, education is going to be big. All those are going to be big issues, I think, in the upcoming legislative session," said Daniel.

No Democratic candidates qualified to run against Daniel in the November general election.
