The Tennessee Volunteers look to snap their three-game losing streak Saturday in the team’s Homecoming game against FCS opponent Tennessee Tech.

Saturday marks the 100th Homecoming on the University of Tennessee campus, and the 93rd Homecoming football game.

Here’s what you need to know about the Golden Eagles.

Overview: Tennessee Tech is in its first season under head coach Marcus Satterfield, who replaced long-time coach Watson Brown.

Brown retired after the 2015 season.

Satterfield served as a graduate assistant at Tennessee under head coach Phillip Fulmer from 2002-2003.

Tennessee Tech snapped a three-game losing streak in a 21-20 win against Southeast Missouri State last Saturday.

Saturday marks the first game between the two schools since Oct. 27, 1951. The two teams played five consecutive years from 1947-1951.

Things to know about the Golden Eagles

1. Starting quarterback is a Marshall transfer: Michael Birdsong began his career at James Madison where he played two seasons in 2012 and 2013.

Birdsong played at Marshall last season, throwing for 385 yards on 82 pass attempts along with two touchdown passes and four interceptions.

The graduate transfer has completed 167 passes on 264 attempts for 1,967 passing yards, 12 touchdown passes and six interceptions.

Birdsong’s top target is junior wide receiver Dontez Byrd, who leads the Golden Eagles with 42 receptions for 502 yards and four touchdowns.

2. Opponents have sacked Birdsong 31 times this season: The Golden Eagles haven’t played an FBS school this season headed into Saturday’s game.

Vols defensive end Derek Barnett could have a field day. Barnett is the active leader among with all FBS players with 29 career sacks.

Barnett needs four sacks to pass Reggie White as UT’s all-time sack leader (32).

3. The Vols have a 70-19-3 record on Homecoming: Tennessee has won 29 of its last 32 Homecoming games.

Tennessee Tech is 0-30 against FBS opponents since 1978. The Golden Eagles are 0-21-1 against current members of the Southeastern Conference.

4. Tennessee Tech hasn’t had a winning season since 2011: The Golden Eagles posted a 7-4 (6-2 OVC) record in 2011.
