Trying to snap a three-game, month-long losing skid, unranked Tennessee returned on Tuesday to Haslam Field as it continued preparation for Saturday’s homecoming tilt against Football Championship Subdivision foe Tennessee Tech (4 p.m., SEC NET).

In a staple for late-season practices under Butch Jones when he has sensed a need to ratchet up competition and intensity, the Vols’ ‘Circle of Life’ drill returned among some more physical work between the offensive and defensive lines as well as the omnipresent special teams work.

While Wes Rucker and Grant Ramey manned Tuesday’s basketball practice, we present our two-man staff observations from Haslam Field.

At this point, I’m not sure I’d be too surprised to see Jack Jones perhaps get a de facto week off or reduced role while Tennessee inserted Coleman Thomas back at the center position in the early segments of practice. Jones has battled through a ligament injury that required surgery, and the former Tennessee Mr. Football winner from Murfreesboro Oakland has had the hand partially casted.
