Vols pitcher Kyle Serrano is recovering from a fractured ankle suffered during an ATV accident, according to the University of Tennessee.

The accident happened Sunday in Alaska. UT said Tuesday that Serrano is expected to have surgery later in the week and is facing a six to eight week rehabilition period.

Serrano, the son of Vols head coach Dave Serrano, is entering his sophomore year at Tennessee.

As a freshman the Farragut grad posted a 4.55 ERA in 19 appearances, going 3-3 in 9 starts.

Serrano spent the summer playing for the Matsu Miners of the Alaska Baseball League.

He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 29th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
