More than 2,700 people voted for TJ Holmes in our Defensive Player of the Week poll.

He was so deserving.

Halls' sophomore linebacker enjoyed a breakout game in the Red Devils' rivalry slate against Gibbs. Holmes recorded 14 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

"I used to go to Gibbs," Holmes said. "I just wanted to play hard. I played as hard as I could."

Halls improved to 3-5 with its win over the Eagles.

"It's great," Holmes said. "I really needed that win. That's what put the season together for me."

The Red Devils are tied for No. 1 in the region, with a 3-1 record in region games. They'll host the team they're tied with, Sevier County, Friday.

"I just get motivated and now I need to get better," Holmes said. "Just feed off what I've done."
