Farragut High School coach Eddie Courtney told his team they were too close now to let up with the first trip to the state championship in school history hanging in the balance.

“I challenged them at halftime,” said Courtney, whose Admirals held a tenuous 17-7 lead over South-Doyle at the break.

“We had kind of a flat second quarter, and I’ve seen it too many times where you let a team hang around.”

Farragut responded to Courtney’s halftime plea with a vengeance, scoring on its first three possessions of the third quarter on its way to a 45-14 semifinal win over visiting South-Doyle Friday night in the 5A semifinals.
