Alcoa Highway back open after hanging power lines caused long closures

ALCOA, Tenn. — Alcoa Highway is back open after being closed for hours due to hanging powerlines, according to the Alcoa Police Department. 

Drivers on Southbound 129 were directed to Topside Road, and those going Northbound 129 were directed to Westbound Pellissippi Parkway or back onto Southbound 129.

A single vehicle crash occurred at Starlite and Singleton Station around 3:45 a.m. on Saturday. Crews responded and discovered the car had struck a utility pole, causing power lines to hang over the highway, APD said. 

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by family members, according to APD.
