I-40W back open near the TN/NC state line after truck carrying cereal caught fire

As of 11:25 a.m., one lane and the right shoulder are blocked. Traffic is moving slowly in one lane of traffic, but it is slow going for those drivers.

COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. — Update: All lanes are back open on I-40 west in Cocke County and traffic is moving again.

Traffic on I-40 west is backed up for miles into North Carolina near the Tennessee state line because of a commercial vehicle fire.

According to TDOT, a tractor-trailer hauling cereal caught fire and is stopped at mile marker 451 in Cocke County. The accident was reported just after 10 a.m.

Initially, both lanes of traffic were blocked, causing a big backup.

As of 11:25 a.m., one lane and the right shoulder are blocked. Traffic is moving slowly in one lane of traffic, but it is slow going for those drivers.

Emergency crews are on the scene. TDOT does not have an estimate on when the road will be cleared.
