Major downtown Knoxville intersection, roads to close for nearly a week starting Saturday

KUB said it will be closing the intersection of North Broadway and West Jackson Avenue starting Saturday, and work is expected to last through midnight Friday.

Heads up if you commute downtown frequently -- a few road and intersections closures will begin Saturday that will last for nearly a week that will significantly impact your drive.

KUB will be doing electric and water system upgrades along the intersection of North Broadway and West Jackson Avenue into Oak Avenue and Worlds Fair Park Drive.

Starting Saturday, March 17 until midnight on Friday, March 23 -- those sections roads over the train tracks downtown will be closed off to traffic continuously as work is being performed, as well as Worlds Fair Park Drive between L&N Station Drive and North Broadway.

KUB said the road closures will not begin until the Saint Patrick's Day Parade has concluded, and will end before the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon steps off on March 24.

A detour will be in place in a large circle around the work. North Broadway traffic inbound to the heart of downtown will need to head around the closure via Depot Avenue to North Gay Street.

There is also a one-way route on South Broadway starting at LMU Duncan School of Law that takes traffic down West Jackson Avenue and toward I-40 via Gay Street.
