TDOT approves speed limit reduction on Alcoa Highway

The current speed limit of 50 mph will be lowered to 40 mph on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020.

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — As the construction continues on Alcoa Highway in Blount County, the Tennessee Department of Transportation announced Monday that the speed limit will be reduced from 50 mph to 40 mph. 

The speed limit reduction will begin at McGhee Tyson Airport and continues to Hall Road. Message boards are currently in the area to advertise this change.

The expansion of State Route 115 (Alcoa Highway) is a seven-phase project that is reconstructing and widening sections of the highway for approximately 13 miles.

In Blount County, that includes this 1.5-mile section of the road, and work is expected to take several years.
