Co-host of WBIR's popular "Live at Five", Russell first sat behind the sports anchor desk at WBIR.
Russell grew up just north of Atlanta a mere four hour drive from Knoxville. By the time he was six he could name every team in the Southeastern Conference and thought numbers were for keeping scores on scoreboards, and recognizing players on the field. It is not a stretch to say that Russell is passionate about Southeastern Conference sports!
Russell is a graduate of the University of Alabama where he learned that numbers were used for more than scores and jerseys. He interned at CNN and upon graduation with his degree in marketing he was hired by CNN, Atlanta, as anchor of both "Headline Sports" and "International Sports." He hosted Turner's "Inflight Sports" shows for CNN and worked with writers from Sports Illustrated to produce NFL, NBA and NHL "Insider" video pieces.
Itching for more intimate involvement with collegiate and local sports, Russell ventured north on I-75. His first stop was Knoxville, and he stayed, hired as a sports anchor at WBIR-TV. In October, 2000, Russell was named co-host of WBIR's popular "Live at Five". Married and the father of two boys and a girl, Russell's first real passion is his family and enjoying time together. Look for Russell and his family at sporting events throughout East Tennessee.
