All month long people are finding ways to raise awareness when it comes to breast cancer.

A Knoxville woman didn't have to look far for inspiration, her 101-year-old great grandmother is reason enough. The signature color for a the "Think Pink" party is of course Pink. However, there is a point to this pastel, it is meant to make the guests think about breast cancer.

Jill Green started hosting the "Think Pink" parties five years ago after she felt inspired by her great grandmother.

Helen Gore first shared her story with 10News last year. She discovered she had breast cancer at the age of 97 when a stray cat known as Zeke jumped off the couch and landed on Ms. Gore's chest.

"I said Zeke...that hurt. I felt it was a lump," said Gore. The cancer was removed, Zeke the wayward cat disappeared and her great granddaughter Jill got an idea.

"When I started researching statistics and found all kinds of info on the web and I kept coming across Think Pink when I clicked on it to find out what it was there was anything from a research to a fundraiser event so everything I found I pulled it all together and rolled it into a party," said Jill.

Grandma Hey, as she is called, is always the guest of honor. The party goers are willing to pay the price to find a cure. They buy jewelry and the money they spend will go to fighting breast cancer. They also learn ways to protect themselves.

Christy Siebel and her mother attended their first "Think Pink" party this year. "Three weeks after that she found a lump through doing a self exam. at the party we talk about the importance of a self examination and encourage others to do that monthly," said Siebel.

The parties serve as a reason to celebrate life, hope and Grandma Hey.

The Think Pinkers raised $500 at the party to benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. The Komen Race for the Cure is coming up on October 22.
