A four-day celebration of African-American culture kicked off Thursday in Downtown Knoxville.
The 25th annual Kuumba Festival started with a lunch in Krutch Park Thursday afternoon along with dancing, storytelling and musical performances. The traditional parade begins at 6 o'clock Friday night on Cumberland Avenue.

The word "kuumba" is Swahili for "creative."
The festival runs through Sunday.
