Knoxville-based band receives first-round nominations for Grammys

A Knoxville-based Americana band received first-round nominations in three different categories for the 59th annual Grammy Awards.

The Black Lillies received first-ballot nominations in the American Roots Performance field for the following songs/album:

Editor’s Note: The field and category number are in bold followed by the name of the song.

·         Field 13 - Category 45 – American Roots Performance: “Bound to Roam”

·         Field 13 - Category 46 – American Roots Song: “The First Time”

·         Field 13 - Category 47 – Americana Album:  “Hard to Please”

First-round ballot are sent to members of The Recording Academy, who are instructed to vote only in their areas of expertise.

The Recording Academy convened 350 artists and experts in order to listen to and organize thousands of entries into 84 Grammy Awards categories in 30 fields.

Nominating committees determine which artists receive official Grammy nominations.

The final nominations announcement for the 59th annual Grammy Awards is set for Dec. 6, 2016.

The 59th annual Grammy Awards is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2017, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The Black Lillies are scheduled to play in Knoxville at The Mill & Mine on New Year’s Eve. General admission tickets cost $30.
