There is a woman in West Knoxville who helps make that special day even more special with her sweet spirit and sewing skills.
She fits, she cuts, she sews. Smack dab in the middle of tulle and beads, spools and lace is Sandra Spencer, or Sandra G, as many know her.
"I have been so blessed. I get so much enjoyment out of coming to work and meeting my brides and their families," says Sandra.
Sandra does alterations on hundreds of wedding dresses, hundreds of prom dresses.
"Pageant girls. I have people that bring professional suits. Men, I do menswear," says Sandra.
To think, Sandra didn't start this business until she was 49 years old. Sandra is a small town girl. She grew up in West Virginia.
"I was introduced to sewing through my home-ec class. I really didn't know that I would end up loving it," says Sandra. "The end project we had to make a dress with a collar, sleeves, cuff, zipper and I loved my teacher."
She eventually moved here when her soon-to-be husband got a job at TVA.
"I got married here, had my babies here, worked here, lived here," says Sandra.
She worked in the banking business for a long time, but was always sewing.
"When I was working in the bank I worked out of my home making wedding dresses, making bridesmaid dresses, altering people's clothes," says Sandra.
She finally made the decision to do it full time with a job at a few local wedding dress boutiques and the owner of Wedding Wonderland encouraged her to go out on her own.
"I love this! This is a passion for me! It really is," says Sandra.
It hasn't come easy and it hasn't come without heartache.
"My husband passed away in 2008. That was unexpected. And that's been a transition for me so really I'm discovering who I am as an individual," says Sandra.
She now focuses on her clients, her two sons, and her sweet grand baby with her dog, Mr. T, by her side.
"He greets everybody and smooches and loves on everybody," says Sandra.
Sandra G, the perfect person to help brides and grooms alike find the perfect fit.
"They are so excited and so beautiful each one of them. It gives me a different picture, a different photo. I am never bored at this shop. Never," says Sandra.
