Knox County kids go back to school next week, and the Knox County Health Department wants to make sure all kids have the proper vaccinations.

Tennessee law requires certain shots for preschoolers, kindergartners, 7th graders, new students and college kids.

Children in Knox County Schools must have a certificate turned in to their school proving they have received the shots

The wait times at the health department this week have been averaging about two hours, due to the last minute dash for immunizations.

"It is absolutely chaotic here because of human nature, waiting until the very last moment to do this. So parents need to come prepared to keep their kids amused for probably a couple of hours. The doors open at 8:00. I advise you to be here at that time to cut down on some of that wait," says Mary Ann Harrison, Nurse Manager.

"I think they will help not getting sick and stuff so more people can be in school and learn, " says Catlyn, a |7th grader who was getting her shots.

You can also get your shots at your primary care physician.

For information regarding your child's shot record, you can call 865-215-5150.
