Bishop Stika marks 5 years with Diocese of Knoxville

It's been five years since Bishop Richard Stika was ordained to lead the Diocese of Knoxville.

Bishop Stika came to Knoxville from St. Louis, where he was born and raised. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him bishop of the Diocese of Knoxville on January 12, 2009, and he was ordained Knoxville's ordinary on March 19, 2009.

He celebrated that anniversary on Wednesday along with parishioners at Sacred Heart Cathedral with a noon mass. They also commemorated the installation of Pope Francis.

Bishop Stika says that he will continue to follow in the footsteps of Pope Francis by leading by example.

"People are just wonderful and I think they need to hear that more, because they are. It's a great mixture of people born in the state as well as people who come from other places, like myself. I hear that time and time again from people when they first move to Tennessee. They feel at home," said Bishop Stika.
