Field Of Dreams

October 27 is Make a Difference Day for WBIR-TV and our parent company, Gannett. Across the country, Gannett employees will be working together to make an impact in our communities. In East Tennessee, we are focusing our efforts on a Field of Dreams for the Boys and Girls Club of the Cumberland Plateau, in Scott County.

Scott County leads the state in unemployment, and almost a quarter of its families live at the poverty level. Times are tough for many people who live there, but at the Boys and Girls Club of the Cumberland Plateau, located in Oneida, hundreds of kids have a place to play and learn, a place to make friends and build hopes for the future, a place just for them.

That's where you come in. WBIR is teaming up with the club, along with city and county leaders, to turn an empty field beside the club into a multi-purpose sports field. It needs to be cleared, filled in with dirt, and covered in sod to make a safe and level playing surface. On October 27, WBIR employees, their families, and local volunteers will spend the day transforming that field. We need $20,000 to make this dream a reality. You can help by donating money to buy the materials needed at the link below. In addition, if you'd like to help the Boys and Girls Club of Scott County with other needs, like donations of technology, toys, games, or furniture, email tburk@wbir.com.
