The French Government bestowed its highest honor on East Tennessee Veteran Harold Davis.

At the ceremony inside the French Consulate in Atlanta on January 12, Mr. Davis received the Legion of Honor for his efforts to help liberate France during World War II. The French Government has awarded the medal to hundreds of WWII veterans and the ceremony in Atlanta included fifteen recipients in all.

Mr. Davis flew twenty-nine combat missions during his military career as a waist gunner aboard a B-24 aircraft. In our interview Mr. Davis recounts some of those harrowing bombing runs where he and his nine crewmates faced counter attacks from ground guns and aerial fighters.

Mr. Davis's grandson, a veteran of two tours with the Marines in Iraq, nominated the elder Davis for the foreign decoration.
