A new get 'well card' or letter shows up almost daily during mail delivery for one East Tennessee Marine recovering outside Washington, D.C. from wounds he suffered in Afghanistan.

"It's been amazing," said Lance Corporal Cody Evans in response to the outpouring of support he has seen since the bomb blast that took his legs last December.

"Some of them just say 'love' and the person's name.  Others have a whole letter," said Cody's mom Regina Evans sitting next to three boxes loaded with dozens of cards.

Months ago Cody and his mom asked some family members if they would help widen a few doors and perhaps add a ramp to ease Cody's transition into their Speedwell home.  To their surprise, an army of volunteers responded and remodeled much of the house and even added an addition.

"They really went above and beyond," said Lance Cpl. Evans.

East Tennessee soldier Master Sergeant Michael Trost has experienced a similar rush of support.

"I don't know if I could ever repay them for all the things they have done for us," said Master Sgt. Trost.  He too is recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The Army veteran suffered six shots that pieced his body during a mission in Afghanistan in February.  Since his return to the states he too has seen a flood of support in the form of cards and Facebook posts.

"You can see I'm choked up about it. But you can see it has been great," said Master Sgt. Trost.

A new effort is underway to help the Trost family with their transition home.  If you would like to assist with that effort, check with any SunTrust bank about the Michael Trost Fund.

Both veterans hope to return to East Tennessee within the next month.
