In the "Honor Your Vet" section of our Service & Sacrifice website more than 100 viewers have taken time to post those personal tributes.
The first on the list is Daniel Shearer. He fought in major battles across Europe in World War II, including a parachute landing on D-Day in addition to fighting during Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge.
Shearer's daughter Peggy Ricciardi and her husband took time to upload a picture and story about Shearer's life and his military service. She says in the six years since she lost her father, she has gained an even deeper appreciation for his many accomplishments. She hopes other son, daughters, grandchildren or other family members of military veterans will follow her lead.
"Whether dead or alive...just do it...put a picture on and say something about what they've done," said Ms. Ricciardi.
