Babushka's Savory Pie

Filling:

1 potato sliced thinly

1 lb of any ground or finely chopped meat (we use pork)

1/2 onion sliced thinly

mushrooms

salt, pepper, favorite spices for meat

Batter:

2 eggs

1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/2 tsp of salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

2/3 cup flour

Instructions: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F., brown the meat adding favorite spices; when meat is almost ready add onions and mushrooms. In a separate skillet layer potatoes on a hot oiled surface, cook on both sides till they are golden brown.

While it's all cooking- in a mixing bowl beat 2 eggs, add sour cream, salt, mayo, baking soda, and then mix in the flour to make " liquid" batter. Now everything is ready to make the pie. Take a deep dish, rub it with oil or butter - pour half of the batter in, spreading with spatula evenly, layer your ingredients: meat, onion and mushrooms, potatoes, top it with the rest of batter spreading evenly and then put it in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or so - check in 15 for the top getting golden brown. The pie is ready when the top layer of batter hardens and becomes golden brown.

Variation for this recipe, Adding 2 or 3 tablespoons of sugar into batter - it becomes useful for a sweet filling like apples, etc. Also you can sub sour cream with Greek unsweetened yogurt. Some add soft cheese as one of the layers.
