Curried Tomato Soup


  • Olive Oil
  • Butter
  • 1 tsp. whole cumin seed
  • 2 long red hot peppers
  • 1 tsp. whole black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic (sliced diagonally)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 2 celery ribs (diced)
  • 1 12 oz. whole tomato can
  • ½ tsp. turmeric
  • ½ tsp. red pepper
  • ½ tsp. ground cumin
  • 2 tbsp. sour cream (optional)


Add butter and olive oil to pan. Add cumin seed, black pepper seeds, red hot peppers, garlic slices, and bay leaves. Once black pepper pops add onion and celery. Cook until translucent add tomatoes crushing them by hand before adding to pot. Cook 10 minutes. Remove red hot peppers, whole black pepper seeds and bay leaves. Blend with immersion blender. Add turmeric, ground cumin, red pepper and salt and pepper to taste. Finish with pat of butter and sour cream.
