Olivia's Shortbread

8 ounces butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
9 ounces all purpose flour, sifted

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Gradually add flour.  Pat into an ungreased 9 x13 baking pan. (Or a 9 x 9 inch)  Bake 30-40 minutes, but only until edges are lightly browned. Prick at half-inch intervals.  Cut into squares.   Cool completely.

Options:  Add 1/2 -1 teaspoon vanilla.
