Attack of Hats: Shane Rhyne and Diane Jordan rule Knoxville hat scene

(WBIR-Knoxville, Tenn.) Americans tipped their hats to National Hat Day Wednesday, January 15. In the past, the accessory indicated a person's social status. Now, the head wear is considered a fashion statement.

Two Knoxville socialites standout as the city's official Hat Lady and Hat Guy.

We've never seen Shane Rhyne outdoors without a hat. Rhyne, the Director of Development and Underwriting at East Tennessee PBS, enjoys hat shopping while traveling on vacation.

"I started wearing them when I was a teen in the 1980s. My grandfathers wore them, I was a big fan of Indiana Jones and Duran Duran," Rhyne told WBIR. "You look at old photos or watch Mad Men and see how the hat really completes the look."

Diane Jordan has more than 100 hats in her huge home collection. Jordan is a former Knox County commissioner.

"I've been collecting and wearing hats for 14 years. I don't leave my house without a hat on. I've tried to do it but it feels like something is missing," Jordan explained.

WBIR Live at 5 at 4's Stoney Sharp talks with both Rhyne and Jordan in the video above.
