Best Buddies program brings students together

College can be a special time in any students life. It's an opportunity to learn and grow as a person. For Katie and Holly, it has been a chance to forge a lasting friendship through a program called Best Buddies.

Best Buddies is an international organization dedicated to creating friendships, employment and leadership development for special needs individuals.

The Best Buddies Program at Carson Newman University is trying to change the way individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are perceived in public. The chapter is also taking part in the national "R-Word Campaign" with the goal of discontinuing the use of the word "retarded" as a derogatory statement to describe someone.
